Making Time to Be Healthy

It is important to be healthy and active. We all know this. For a great many people, his means going to the gym. However, as every hardworking woman knows, there just aren’t enough hours in the day. Often, there’s no time left over for ourselves, let alone time for the gym. We have to pick up the kids, help them with their homework, make dinner etc. The list goes on and on. And, let us not forget the biggest ‘’kids’’of all…our husbands. Sometimes, all we get from them is negative reinforcement. ‘’You joined a gym and don’t even use it, what a waste of money, I knew you wouldn’t use it!’’ ‘’Still saying you’re overweight because you had a baby, well it’s been a year now, you can’t use that excuse for ever.’’ ‘’This isn’t how you looked when I met you!’’ Wow! Ladies, does any of this sound familiar? I know that I’ve heard each of these a time or two.

Words are very powerful and can impact greatly on one’s self-esteem, especially when those words are uttered by someone you love and respect. It goes without saying that not all men speak to their partners in this manner. However, if you do find yourself hearing things similar to the statements above, step one is to ask your loved one to STOP! Step two is to make a decision to be proactive. Where’s your time? You have to make it ! Yes, you have a lot to do for others, but you’re important too. Taking time for yourself isn’t an act of selfishness, it’s a necessity ! So, on that note, NO MORE EXCUSES ! There’s no time like the present to start making better choices.

Now that the holiday season is upon us, temptation is all around ; at the office , at home , at holiday parties. There seems to be no escape from the copious amounts of chocolate that accompany Christmas celebrations. This is why will power and determination are key. There is no reason why a healthy, balanced diet cannot include treats, in moderation. As the saying goes, we only have one life to live. We don’t want to spend it in unhappiness and deprivation. However, since life can take a toll on our bodies, it is important to take care of our physical health and well-being. This does not mean that we have to try to be someone else. Not everyone is meant to be a size two. I’m not, nor would I want to be. Every BODY is different. Embrace what God has given you and work with it to the best of your ability.

My partner and I enjoy walking and talking. You’d be surprised by the amount of calories you can burn just by walking. How about ice skating? ‘Tis the season for it. Thinking of gift ideas? Well, I quite enjoy JUST DANCE for PlayStation. I have fun with the family while burning off unwanted calories. When at holiday parties, try not to spend too much time around the hors d’œuvres table. That way, you avoid constant munching. When hosting a party, try to be more creative with the sweets that you intend to serve. Yes, it is easier to buy than to make BUT, when making, you can control what goes into your goodies. It is more than possible to enjoy the celebratory nature of the holiday season without over-indulging. So, have fun and stay healthy!
